The design captures the moment of Pope Joan's last procession, soon before her real identity is revealed. At the very front, putti angels guide the procession while holding the papal crown. One of them, blindfolded, symbolizes the changing fortunes of life. A Papal guard stands next to an exotic cat, while a maid accompanies the Pope during the journey. All around, grotesque figures populate the composition, a reference to the lavish celebrations thrown on the streets of Rome during papal journeys.

Moments after this screenshot, the unthinkable happens: Joan enters early labor and her true identity is revealed. Her fate after that moment is unknown, as every trace of her existence has been erased. Pope Joan becomes a mere tale, a legend. New evidence, however, suggests that coins were issued in her name, therefore she might have truly existed.
